What Are the Three Components of Romantic Love?

What is love? Love is a collection of behaviors and emotions characterized by emotional intimacy, desire, intimacy, and commitment to a person or a relationship. It entails intense care, proximity, safety, romance, affection, and support. Love can range from a deep sense of devotion to a more light-hearted form of sentiment. Some forms of love are reciprocal while others are not; however, all love is respectful and affectionate. We all have love inside us and it is our responsibility to learn how to share that love with those whom we love.

Emotions are a powerful thing. When we are happy, sad, scared, excited, nervous, lonely, or scared things are going on in our body. Our emotions are sometimes known as an inner chatter within us revealing the thoughts and feelings that are running through us. That’s not a bad thing; in fact, it’s a good thing if those thoughts and feelings are ones that we can work to change. However, sometimes our emotions get out of control and we make decisions that are based on unbridled passion, based on strong feelings which are not realistic. This happens to a lot of people who are involved in long-term relationships.

The confusing aspect of this whole scenario is that loving another person means being open and honest with them about your deepest feelings. Then, when you are intimate with another person it becomes about sharing the deepest feelings of your heart with another person. But then what happens when your intimate moments with another person conflict with your healthy desires to be in a romantic love relationship? The answer is confusion.

People in a romantic relationship do not like to feel as if they aren’t in love, because un requited love is painful. When you feel that your feelings for someone are not reciprocated you are likely to start to confuse love with confusion. Confusion is often seen as negative emotion, but in reality, this emotion can serve as the building block towards developing a fulfilling romantic love relationship.

As you become more educated about love and intimacy you will likely learn that there are many different types of love. For example, there is the feeling of love that is based on physical attraction. There is also the other type of love that is based on feelings, or even friendship. Then, there is the romance type of love where two people develop a romantic connection based on attraction. Each type of love has different types of elements which are very important to understand.

By becoming educated about these three components of romantic relationships, you will be able to develop a deeper understanding of how your relationship works. Then, if an intimate moment does happen it will not be one that leads to confusion or feelings of betrayal. Rather, it will lead to an exciting new relationship where you feel a powerful sense of connectedness and intimacy. This new sense of connection will definitely have a great affect on your relationship, making it stronger than ever before!
