The Definition of Beauty

The definition of beauty varies widely. For instance, what makes someone beautiful is their aesthetic sense, their age, race, gender, weight, and body shape. In popular culture, the concept of beauty is more subjective, and can vary according to the time period and region. However, there are certain qualities that are universally valued by people as being beautiful. These include: health, physical appearance, and personality. There is no single standard of beauty, as each person’s beauty will be subjective.

While there are numerous definitions of beauty, the basic notion is that it provides pleasure to the senses. In other words, beauty satisfies our aesthetic faculties, intellectual capabilities, and moral sense. This is because the quality of beauty is what makes us feel good and contented. This means that a beautiful object evokes positive emotions, a feeling of satisfaction, or a positive attitude. It is the object of our aesthetic faculties, and we are always seeking the same for ourselves.

There are two primary ways of defining beauty: classical and hedonist. In classical conceptions, beauty is a relation between parts. It is a harmonious whole. In hedonist conceptions, beauty is a relation between value and pleasure. For example, a beautiful object is a pleasure-giving object. Its function is also a part of its aesthetic qualities. If it brings us pleasure, we will feel happy and satisfied.
