Olsen Fashion opens it’s second store in a cozy New York City townhouse.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have opened a flagship boutique on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. They plan to open another for their line The Row in the Upper East Side of New York City before the end of the year, it’s a townhouse at 17 East 71st Street.
“We have had our eye on this property for the past two years,” Ashley told WWD.
Last May, The Row’s first store opened on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. At that time, Mary Kate told WWD that it was a draw whether to debut in New York or L.A., but when the space became available, “we jumped on it.”
The Row’s West Coast store references midcentury aesthetics but with a new shiny courtyard and pool visible through modern glass doors. Ashley told WWD “we left the bones. We like to enhance what’s already existed so the integrity of it is still very on par.”
Built in 1910, the New York space is in stark contrast to the midcentury space on Melrose (which was formerly Sally Hershberger’s salon).
When the twins built their L.A. store, they added personal touches such as furniture pieces from their own collection and vintage finds, giving the store a residential feel. There are no details yet on the New York location, but the designers are no strangers to townhomes. Previously, they’ve hosted fashion presentations in similar places.
